The International Council of Psychologists (ICP)
is seeking nominations
for its Board of Directors.
Elected terms begin January, 2026
Nominations are welcomed from all ICP Members, ICP Professional Associate Members, and Student Members. Self nominations are also welcomed. Discover ICP members are welcomed to submit nominations, but are not themselves eligible to serve in Board positions.

Open Positions – President-Elect, Three Director-at-Large Positions, One Student Director-at-Large
The ICP Board consists of 15 members from a variety of countries: President, President Elect, Past President, Treasurer, Secretary-General, and 10 elected Directors-at-Large, one of whom is a student (see https://icpweb.org, scroll to end)
The open positions are for a 3-year term for Director-at-Large positions, a 2-year term for Student Director-at-Large, and a 2-year term for President-Elect (followed by a 2-year term as President, and a 2-year term as Past-President). Colleagues elected in 2025 will serve from January 1, 2026.
Duties of the Positions
General Duties of all Elected Positions
The ICP Board assumes primary responsibility for the functioning and welfare of ICP. Board members are expected to attend quarterly Board meetings; attend the annual ICP conference; review and vote on governance changes, policy statements, association policies, annual budget, convention proposals, council activities, committees, and workgroups.
Duties of President-Elect
The President Elect is a member of the Board of Directors, serves as Chair of the Long-Range Planning Committee (strategic planning), and is on the conference organizing committee. The President-Elect becomes President at their term’s end.
Terms as President (2 years) and Past President (2 years) follow the term as President-Elect. The duties of the President are to serve as the Chairperson of the Board for ICP and leader of ICP in carrying out ICP’s vision and strategic plan. The President serves as Chair of the Annual ICP Conference and organizing committee, is ex officio member of ICP committees, works with the Treasurer to oversee the ICP budget, and represents ICP as needed. The duties of the Past President, include overseeing the nominations and elections process and serving on the Long Range Planning Committee.
Duties of Directors-at-Large
In addition to general duties of board members, each Director-at-Large is expected to carry out an ICP-wide initiative, chair a Standing or other Committee, or chair or otherwise lead other contributions as determined in collaboration with the President and Board of Directors.
Duties of the Student Director-at-Large
The Student Director-at-Large is responsible for maintaining contact with ICP student members, and forming a student-member committee to carry out student-related activities including but not limited to webinars, meet-and-greet opportunities, and maintaining a student section in the ICP Resources website.
Nominations Deadline: July 31, 2025
Voting will take place online. Ballots for the elections will be sent to all voting members on September 02, 2025. Elections will close on September 30, 2025. Elected positions will begin January 2026.
Please consider serving on the Board of ICP or nominating a colleague. ICP is interested in a geographically diverse Board, and especially welcomes nominations from unrepresented regions of the world
Eligibility Requirements
- Nominees for the President Elect must be ICP members in good standing.
- Nominees for Directors-at-Large must be ICP members or ICP Professional Affiliates in good standing.
- Nominees for Student Director-at-Large must be ICP Student members in good standing.
- Good standing is defined as having paid 2025 ICP membership dues.
- Nominators can be ICP members, ICP Professional Affiliates, or ICP Student members in good standing, or 2025 ICP Discover members.
Desired leadership qualities for nominees
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to listen and analyze, as well as think strategically and creatively.
- Ability to consider multiple viewpoints, an international and inclusive perspective, and work well with people individually and in a group.
- Ability to make decisions based on knowledge rather than opinion.
- Willingness to learn more about the Council, prepare for and attend quarterly virtual Board of Directors meetings, and take responsibility for assignments.
- Ability to work well with a group and abide by Board decisions – Board decisions are reached by consensus and vote
Note – the working language of the ICP Board of Directors is English.
