Javier D’Carlo Garcia, USA

My name is Javier D’Carlo Garcia, and I am honored to be both a member of the International Council of Psychologists and a candidate for Student Director-at-Large. After completing the High-Performance Leadership Programme at the University of Oxford, I graduated with a master’s in psychology at Harvard University where I am now pursuing a master’s in finance with the aim of connecting psychology and financial systems to address global challenges.

My academic work has centered on proactive military suicide prevention applying cognitive neuroscience and psychology to design interventions that reduce stigma, build resilience, and provide support to those who serve so they can live a meaningful life. This work has taught me the importance of prevention-focused approaches and the power of interdisciplinary collaboration to create real-world impact.

Beyond research, I serve as a board member of the Kansas State Science and Engineering Fair, mentoring young students as they pursue their own scientific interests. I am also an active member of the American Psychological Association (where I recently completed a year assignment as Campus Ambassador), the International Association of Applied Psychology, and the Cognitive Neuroscience Society. Each of these organizations along with my involvement in the International Council of Psychologists has strengthened my commitment to building international connections and supporting the next generation of psychologists.
