Safety

ICP 2027 Conference in Cairo, Egypt

The International Council of Psychologists (ICP) and the ICP 2027 Conference Planning Committee note  that some colleagues have raised questions about safety during the ICP 2027 Conference, October 17–20, 2027, hosted by the American University in Cairo (AUC), in general and especially for Jewish participants, given the current geopolitical context.

The safety, dignity, and inclusion of all attendees, regardless of religion, nationality, ethnicity, or identity, is our highest priority.

The conference will be hosted at the American University in Cairo, which states that its Office of Safety and Security is committed to a “safe, secure and welcoming campus environment” for a global community of students from more than 50 countries. AUC also maintains campus access procedures and a dedicated security structure, including a Chief Security Officer and a campus access process for visitors.

ICP is committed to being an inclusive professional community. Individuals from all identities – religious, national, sexual, racial, and ethnic are valued members of our field and of our organization. We are working with our host institution and local partners to ensure that all participants, including Jewish attendees, are welcomed and supported in a respectful and secure environment.

At the same time, we do know that the global political and security climate in October 2027 cannot be predicted now. Conditions can evolve regionally and internationally. For that reason, ICP, the conference planning committee, and our partners at the American University in Cairo,  will continue to monitor official travel guidance, regional developments, and host-institution assessments on an ongoing basis. If circumstances change materially, decisions about conference planning, travel guidance, or program adjustments will be made well in advance.
